Do I have to be an athlete to see an Athletic Therapist?
No, Athletic Therapy is for everyone! From kids to seniors, athletic or not. If you have an injury, strain, chronic condition, concussion, or are recovering from surgery, we can help. ATs are musculoskeletal experts & first responders, equipped to help you.
Are your services covered by insurance? Do you direct bill?
Athletic Therapy, Osteopathy, and Massage Therapy are quite broadly covered by most insurance benefits, but each plan varies. Please check your specific coverage details before booking. the service.
At this time, we do not direct bill.
Once service is paid, we will provide an invoice to submit electronically with your insurance provider.
What is the difference between Athletic Therapy & Physiotherapy?
Physiotherapy education focuses on a broad scope of practice, whereas, Athletic Therapy education puts a primary focus on the musculoskeletal system with a dive into the neurological system. Athletic therapists also place an emphasis on emergency management, supportive taping, & sideline management of injuries. Both professions have a goal of returning patients to their pre-injury lifestyle.
What is the Difference between Sports Massage & Deep Tissue Massage?
Sports massage is symptom-focused, while deep tissue massage is outcome focused. Sports massage focuses on dysfunctional issues with muscles & connective tissue, with an aim to correct biomechanics. Deep tissue massage is beneficial for general muscle tension or chronic muscle pain, and it employs various techniques from gentle pressure to firm.
What is Craniosacral Therapy?
Craniosacral therapy (CST) is a gentle, hands-on treatment which focuses on the craniosacral system, the membranes and fluid surrounding the brain & spinal cord, to release tension & improve the functioning of the Central Nervous System (CNS). The treatment is non-invasive & uses light touch and gentle pressure to promote pain relief, reduce stress & address issues like headaches, neck pain & other physical or psychological conditions.
How do I prepare for my 1st Float?
First, complete the Hydrotherapy Consent form on your client profile. It informs you of issues that could exclude you from flaoting. At your session, we will do a full orientation & provide everything you need for a successful float. Floating is usually done nude, but you can wear a bathing suit if you prefer
Who should not float?
People with certain medical conditions such as epilepsy, kidney diease, low blood pressure, contagious diseases, open wounds or skin ulcers. You will not be allowed to float if you are under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Avoid floating if you have freshly shaved or waxed or have recent tattoos or piercing. You should not float if you have newly coloured hair or treatments.
What if I fall asleep in the pod?
It happens and it's perfectly safe. The high concentration of epsom salt makes the water completely bouyant, ensuring you stay afloat and not roll over. Just enjoy the deep rest & the chime and/or pump will nudge you awake.
Why do I need a health professional to cold plunge?
Having a consultation ensures consideration of your current health status to rule out medical conditions that could be dangerously impacted by a cold plunge., and ensures potential risks are managed properly. A trained professional ensures the right temperature of water & duration is suited to you, & warm up methods are used properly. A certified coach will also guide you through breathwork to prepare your body & nervous system before, during & after the plunge.
How do your studio classes work?
The classes in our Social Wellness Studio can be started at any time, as they are not run as a series. This means with your membership, you can try different classes to learn new things, challenge yourself, & meet new people. Or you can choose to stick to one class for whatever length of time you'd like, then move onto another. You choose the experience! You are welcome to bring a friend for free once a month, and if it's your first time at our studio, you can choose your first class for free!
